James G. Bachman

James G. Bachman, 88, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the Providence Home Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

James was born on March 12, 1926 in Dubois, Indiana to Albert B. and Eleanor C. (Seger) Bachman. He married Victoria C. Englert on October 7, 1950 in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on January 8, 1991.

James retired from the Jasper Corporation, where he worked for over 40 years. He was an Army veteran who served in WW II. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, the Jasper VFW Post #673, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, and the Ireland Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed playing cards and pitching horseshoes, and was an avid Cincinnati Reds, and IU Basketball fan.

He is survived by three daughters, Diana Fleig and her husband Rick, of Ferdinand, Christina Schipp and her husband Jeff, of Ferdinand, and Tonya Mendel and her husband Tim, of Jasper; eight grandchildren, Brad and Luke Fleig, of Ferdinand, Nicole Hulsman of Huntingburg, Greg Fleig of Jasper, Ben Schipp of Indianapolis, Dane Schipp of Bloomington, and Cameron and Noah Mendel of Jasper; four great-grandchildren, Kolin Fleig, Anna, Grace, and Samuel Hulsman; one sister, Mary Moeller and her husband Dennis, of Jasper; three brothers, Tom Bachman and his wife Charlene, of Jasper, Gene Bachman and his wife Dorothy, of Jasper, Kenny Bachman and his wife Marjorie, of Jasper, one sister-in-law, Marietta Bachman, Jasper; one brother-in-law, Vic Teder of Jasper.

Preceding him in death beside his wife are two sisters, Rita Mae Schmitt and Helen Teder, one brother, Bob Bachman, one brother William and one sister Ruth who died in childhood.

Funeral services for James Bachman will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, IN, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper, IN. The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. service time at the church on Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday.
