James C. Himsel, 91, Jasper

James C. Himsel, 91, Jasper, passed away at 10:18 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2017, at his home.
He was born in Haysville, Indiana on December 17, 1925, to Edward and Helene (Koenig) Himsel. He married Viola V. Recker on April 17, 1953. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2016.
He was a World War II Army veteran who served in the European theater.
He was a retired construction worker and member of the Local labor union #561 and also worked as a machinist for McDonnnell Douglas Air Craft and Caterpillar. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #673 in Jasper.
He loved reading, history and genealogy
He is survived by six daughters, Wanda Haas of Jasper, Mary Hohl of Santa Claus, Angela Himsel Sacks (Selig) of New York, N.Y., Elizabeth Eblen (Doug) Greenwood, Sarah Burcon (David) of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Rachael Himsel of Bloomington; four sons, James R. Himsel, Edward Himsel (Kathy) both Jasper, Paul Himsel of Terre Haute and John Himsel of Dubois; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola Watson of Houston, Texas.
Preceding him in death besides his wife is one daughter, Abby Himsel; two grandchildren, Phillip Haas and Nina Marie Himsel; and one brother, Robert Himsel.
Funeral services for James Himsel will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017, in Redemption Christian Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Community Cemetery in Haysville, Indiana. V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper will conduct military grave side rites.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the 2:00 p.m. service time at Redemption Christian Church in Jasper.
