James Anthony “Jack” Hauser, 79, of Santa Claus, Ind. formerly of Terre Haute, passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and children on Tuesday March 10th.

Jack fought a brave and stoic battle with cancer.

He was born March 9, 1936 in Schnellville, Ind. to Jacob & Cornelia (Troxler) Hauser.

He married the former Mary G. “Gerry” Mehling on May 4, 1957 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Ferdinand.

Jack enjoyed a distinguished career having served in various positions at the Western & Southern Insurance Company in Tell City & Terre Haute, and later with the Sycamore Insurance Company in Terre Haute. Jack was involved in many philanthropic and community organizations. He was a former president of Big Brother/ sisters of Vigo County, president and senator of Ferdinand Jaycees, and president of the Central Eastside Merchants. He was a member of Rotary Club International, Optimist Club, Santa Claus Knights of Columbus, and St. Nicholas Parish. Jack enjoyed golf, fishing trips with his brothers, traveling, woodworking, and spending time with his family and cherished friends.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gerry Hauser; three daughters, Beth Fields and husband Dave of Terre Haute, Laura Reeder and husband Jeff of Avon, and Amy Keen and husband Chris of Brazil, Ind.; two sons, Jeff Hauser and wife Patti of Terre Haute, and Glenn Hauser and wife Mary of Brownsburg; 10 grandchildren, Eric Fields, Emily Wallace, Adam Hauser, Lucy Hauser, Helen Hauser, Jared, Evan, and Katie Reeder, Hannah Clark, Logan Keen, and one great-grand daughter, Evelyn Wallace; five brothers, Dan Hauser and wife Rosie of Schnellville, Fred Hauser and wife Eileen of Ferdinand, Bill Hauser and wife Ruth of St. Anthony, Kenny Hauser and wife Connie of Bluffton, &and Steve Hauser and wife Eileen of Schnellville; two sisters, Mary Sue Johnson and husband Gary of Santa Claus and Judy Hauser of Ferdinand; several nieces and nephews; and a loyal companion “Mazie”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Stuart & Ricky Hauser.

Funeral services 10:00 a.m. CST Saturday, March 14, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Santa Claus, burial to follow in Saint Ferdinand Church Cemetery, Ferdinand. Friends may call from 2 to 8:00 p.m. CST Friday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand, and after 9:00 a.m. CST Saturday at St. Nicholas Church.
