James A. Block, 83

James A. Block, age 83, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 4:18 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at home.
Jim was born on December 14, 1929 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Albert and Clara (Buechler) Block. He married Florentine “Marge” Giesler on September 3, 1955 in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.
Jim was a US Navy veteran who served during the Korean War and served many years in the Indiana National Guard.
He retired from Jasper Rubber Company where he had worked for over 40 years.
He was past commander of V.F.W. Post #673 in Jasper, serving on the Military Funeral Detail for many years. He was a volunteer driver for the area veterans and was instrumental in purchasing the transportation medical van for the area veterans.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post #673, American Legion Post #147, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #77, the Jasper Moose, and past president of the Jasper Kiwanis.
He was a past president of the local Ducks Unlimited Chapter and was a timer for Jasper High School track meets for over 40 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Florentine “Marge” Block; two daughters, Pam Lueken and her husband Wayne, of Birdseye, and Angie Kleinhelter and her husband Tom, of Jasper; three sons, Steve Block and his wife Ann, of Jasper, Mark Block and his wife Jan, of Jasper, and David Block and his wife Terri, of Capitola, Cal.; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose Lee Denk, of Jasper.
Preceding him in death is one brother, Cyril Block, and one sister, Virginia “Ginny” Jones.
Funeral services for James A. Block, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013, in Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military grave side rites.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the Becher-KIuesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Disabled American Veterans Chapter #77 will perform a memorial service at 5:00 p.m.
