Jack Delbert Schriefer, 82, of Lamar passed away Sunday June 23, 2013.

He was born to Delbert and Bethel (Ferguson) Schriefer in Lamar on June 12, 1931.

He married Mary Anne Fitzgerald on August 26, 1973. She died on July 5, 2011.

Jack was a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church in Santa Claus where he taught Sunday school and bible study for many years. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.

Jack was very involved in Rural Youth. He earned his degree in agronomy from Purdue University. He was a longtime member of Gideons International. Jack was a lifelong farmer who worked many years for the Soil Conservation Service in Gibson, Spencer and Vanderburgh Counties; he later served as U.S. Postal carrier in Gentryville, Holland and Otwell for over 20 years. Jack also served on the Spencer County Council on Aging.

His passion was for working the land, and he did so throughout his retirement.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years Mary Anne. He is survived by two children, Gretchen Easterday and her husband Seth of Evansville and Harold Schriefer and wife Lisa of Lamar; three grandchildren, Elijah, Jack and Ruthie Easterday of Evansville; one sister, Sharon Price of Newburgh, along with many friends and relatives.

Friends may call from 4-8:00 p.m. CST Tuesday at Santa Claus Methodist Church and again from 10:00-11:00 a.m. CST Wednesday. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. CST on Wednesday. Burial will follow in Clay City Cemetery near Lamar. Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand is in charge of arrangements.
