Jack Amos

Jack Amos, age 73, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away Friday afternoon, April 6, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.  He was born October 4, 1938 in Dale, Indiana to Lester and Hazel (Cooper) Amos. Jack was united in marriage to Norma J. Vaal on June 6, 1975 in Holland. He was a former police officer for the City of Huntingburg, worked at the Holland Dairy from where he retired, was a former Huntingburg City Councilman, and was active within the Huntingburg Parks & Recreation Department and Huntingburg Housing Authority. He was a member of the Southridge High School Football Chain Gang, Friends of Huntingburg Memorial Gymnasium, and V.F.W. Post #2366 where he served as former Post Commander and the current Sergeant At Arms. He attended Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg and was an avid I.U. sports fan. Jack served in the United States Army as an M.P. during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Warren Amos and Wallace Amos; and two sisters, Mary Ann Luker and Jean Besing.

  • Kathy (Shawn Croghan) Amos – Ankeny, Iowa, (Editors: married but each kept their surnames.)

Three sisters,

  • Inez Hughes – Tennessee,
  • Faye Becker – Newburgh, IN,
  • Connie Wilhelm – Kansas,

and (6) grandchildren.

Funeral services for Jack Amos will be held at 2:00 p.m., E.D.T., on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Huntingburg. The V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail will conduct military graveside rites. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Tom Wade.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3:00-8:00 p.m., on Monday; and also on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Nass & Son Funeral Home and 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Salem United Church of Christ.
