Irene R. Giesler, 90, of Jasper, passed away at 12:05 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

Irene was born in Schnellville on October 23, 1928, to Bernard and Anna (Humbert) Theising. She married Sylvester Giesler on November 8,
She graduated in 1946 from Birdseye High School. Irene worked at the Schnitzelbank Restaurant in Jasper, was a homemaker, and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, and their sodality.
She enjoyed playing softball and volleyball, canning and baking, watching her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events as well as volunteering at the food bank and St. Vincent de Paul.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha Wehr of Jasper and Mary Witte (Michael) of Zionsville; seven sons, Kenneth Giesler (Sarah) of Haysville, Richard Giesler (Lois) of Jasper, Stanley Giesler (Nancy) of Jasper, Ronald Giesler (Karla) of Evansville, Gary Giesler (Kris) of Jasper, Jeffrey Giesler (Angie) of Jasper, and Paul Giesler (Jamie) of Ferdinand; 21 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Veronica Heldman of Celestine and Mary Ann Schmitt (Louis) of Jasper; one sister-in-law, Helen Theising of Schnellville
Preceding her in death besides her husband were one grandchild, Kale Giesler, one son-in-law, Richard Wehr, one sister, Dorothy Seger, and one brother, Hilbert Theising
A Mass of Christian Burial for Irene R. Giesler will be held in conjunction with her husband, Sylvester Giesler at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper with entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. service time at Holy Family Catholic Church on Tuesday.
