Ireland Historical Society celebrating 30th anniversary Sept. 20

The Ireland Historical Society will celebrate 30 years with a community celebration Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Ireland.

The event is free and open to the public, with burgers, hot dogs, chips, popcorn, cake, and ice cream, plus cornhole, balloon art, face painting, and other yard games. Door prizes will also be given away.

The Ireland Historical Society, Inc., was formed in May 1996 and took ownership that August of the building that now houses it — a former Methodist church built in 1878, located at James and Walnut streets. The nonprofit organization is run entirely by volunteers and is dedicated to preserving the history of Ireland, Indiana, and Dubois County’s Boone and Madison townships. Its museum includes a “Walls of History” display featuring more than 1,000 historical photographs, along with artifacts including the original doctor’s case used by Dr. E.A. Glezen, Ireland’s first physician, in 1846.

The event will be held at the historical society’s building at 5173 W. Walnut St., Jasper.
