Iowa J. Rainey, 87, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the Hardinsburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hardinsburg, Kentucky.

She was born March 2, 1927 in Waldenburg, Arkansas, to David and Pearl Johnson.

Iowa was a retired nurse’s aide and cook.She enjoyed sewing quilts by hand.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Narl Rainey; one daughter, Rita Smith; three brothers, David Johnson Jr., Von Johnson and Carmack Johnson; two sisters, Audrey Richardson and Geneva Toddy; and two great grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons and two daughter-in-laws, Rodney (Debbie) Hughes of Morgan City, Louisiana and Ralph (Pam) Hughes of Jasper; one daughter, Rose Lederman of Hawesville, Ky.; one sister, Elese Price of Lepanto, Ark.; by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial services for Iowa J. Rainey will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, January 15, 2015, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at a later date.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 1:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday the day of the memorial service.
