Inmate faces charges after X-ray reveals contraband

An inmate is facing trafficking charges after an X-ray revealed a cigarette lighter and suspected synthetic marijuana in his rectum.

According to authorities, jail officers suspected an inmate was smoking an illegal substance in the county security center. During the investigation, officers suspected another inmate, Eric B. Crowe, 26, of 2704 Corona Dr., Evansville, was in possession of the contraband and concealing it on his person.

Crowe had reported to the Security Center to serve a commitment for a charge of possession of marijuana.

After using a metal detector, jail officers were granted a warrant to X-ray Crowe and the items were discovered in his rectum.

The inmate removed the contraband from his person.

Crowe is facing a Level 5 felony charge of trafficking with an inmate and a Class A misdemeanor charge of possession of a synthetic drug.
