Inaugural Ferdinand Folk Festival Songwriter Competition winners crowned

Nick Peay and Hayley Payne took home the honor at the Ferdinand Folk Festival’s first Singer/Songwriter Competition.

On Saturday, August 8, the ten finalists for the inaugural Ferdinand Folk Festival singer-songwriter competition peformed for a panel of judges and a packed house at Ferdinand’s American Legion.

Louisville’s Nick Peay won the 18-and-over division and Owensboro’s Hayley Payne took home the honors for the under-18 division. As the overall winner, Peay will kick off the Main Stage of music at the sixth annual Ferdinand Folk Festival on Saturday, September 19th. Payne will be featured on multiple sets on the Market Stage.

“We’d like to thank to the musicians for their good nature and for the willingness to share their gifts and talents,” said the competition’s co-chair, Rock Emmert.  “The audience was respectful and full attention was given to the performers. It was a most memorable night.”

The singer-songwriter competition was sponsored by Monkey Hollow Bistrow Winery located in the historic Wollenman Home in the heart of Ferdinand.
