Ida M. Gehlhausen, 74, Ferdinand

Ida M. Gehlhausen, 74, of Ferdinand, passed away Monday, February 28, 2017, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

She was born December 26, 1945, in St. Meinrad to Albert and Frieda (Gessner) Fetter. She married Bernard “Bennie” Sanders on October 14, 1967, in St. Meinrad Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1993. She married Leonard B. Gehlhausen Sr. on December 26, 1994, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Ida was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and the Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 Auxillary. She was a housekeeper and worked at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center cafeteria. She also volunteered for several area charities. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, cleaning & spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Leonard B. Gehlhausen; two sons, Keith Sanders and fiancé Terra Fuhs of Lake Helmerich Village, and Lieutenant Col. Michael (Kathy) Sanders of Langley Air Force Base, Virginia; one stepson, Leonard B. Gehlhausen of Huntingburg; two stepdaughters, Jody (Dale) Kessinger of Evanston and Christy Beadles of Huntingburg; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eileen (Robert) Artmeyer.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Daniel, Sylvan and Delbert Fetter and two in infancy; and four sisters, Arlinda Wendholt, Jeanette Buechler, Lietta Wendholt and one sister in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday and after 7 a.m. Saturday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
