Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery is hosting an exhibit of icons entitled “The Twelve Great Feasts” by Chicago artist Joseph Malham.

The exhibit runs through August 31.

Joseph Malham is an iconographer who has been artist in residence at St. Gregory the Great Church on Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood for the past 15 years. Malham graduated from Loyola University with a major in history and a minor in art history and studied classical architecture and Renaissance art in Rome.

This series of work commemorates the major feasts of the liturgical year. Using acrylic washes on Arches paper, Malham explores new ways to express traditional themes. His intention is to convey a sense of God’s truth and beauty.

Malham’s icons on panel, canvas and paper, as well as his processional crosses, have been commissioned by churches, religious communities, and institutions around the Chicago area and nationally.

He is currently working on a cycle of murals in a chapel at St. Gregory the Great honoring families who have lost children. Malham is also an author and two published books, “By Fire into Light: Four Catholic Martyrs of the Nazi Camps” and “John Ford: Poet in the Desert.” He is currently working on a book on his icons.
