Hurst seeks Jasper City Council seat

Dave Hurst, 62, announced his intentions to seek the Democratic nomination for the District 4 City Council seat presently held by Tom Schmidt.

Schmidt, who has served as a councilman for Jasper for 40 years, is retiring at the end of his term in 2015.

Hurst currently sits on the Bainbridge Township Advisory Board and the Jasper City Utility Board, serving as the Water Commissioner.

In announcing his decision to run, Hurst stated “he is a life long resident of Jasper and believes it’s the best city in which to live, work and raise a family.”

He wants to assist Jasper to continue to prosper so that we can attract the workforce necessary to provide a good living for our residents.

Through his work and personal contacts, he’s had the opportunity to talk with people outside of the area that see Jasper as a great community with great people. As a council member, Hurst plans to continue developing community pride to help draw new business and people to Jasper.

Hurst is a graduate of Jasper High School and Vincennes University-Jasper, with a degree in business management.

He has worked the past 44 years in the local woodworking industry in various capacities related to sales, service, and management. He recently retired as the Branch Manager for Rollie Williams Paint & Chemical Co, here in Jasper.

He is a member of St Joseph Catholic Church as well as the Loyal Order of the Moose, the American Legion and the Jasper Knights of Columbus, where he served on the Columbian Home Association Board Of Directors for a number of years.

Hurst lives in Jasper on University Drive with his wife of 41 years, the former Suzanne Knies. They have two children, Emily Jarrett and Alex Hurst, as well as three grandchildren.

“Given the opportunity, I will work diligently to continue the hard work ethic and heritage of Jasper,” Hurst said.
