Huntingburg to get new code enforcement officer
On Tuesday at the Public Works meeting Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner announced Keith Snyder, the current code enforcement officer, would be swapping positions with Steve Collett, a part-time Street Department employee.
Snyder has been the code enforcement officer for five years. “Keith and I had discussed this several times and when we looked internally to incorporate that change, Steve Collett expressed interest in the position.” Spinner said. “Keith will go to work for the Street Department and Steve will be stepping in as our code enforcement officer.”
Collett has managerial experience from a local company with a background in human resources. His position with the Street Department is considered a full-time/part-time position; he worked 40 hours a week from March to October and was off the rest of the year.
The change will take effect July 1. New ordinances dealing with code enforcement should go into effect in July and with the new ordinances, the position is expected to become more demanding.
Snyder retired from the Huntingburg Police Department in 2004 as a First-class Patrolman. “I am sixty years old and all I want to do is mow grass and go home,” Snyder said about the stress of code enforcement. “At night all I want to worry about whether it’s going to rain tomorrow and if I’ll have to work.”
