Huntingburg Tipline and Drug Collection Unit open to public
The Huntingburg Police Department announced two new additions designed to assist the community in reporting crimes and disposing of drugs.
The Huntingburg Police Department anonymous tip line is now fully operational. Citizens with information regarding drugs or crimes can call 812-684-2992 anytime.
Recently, the department partnered with CVS and the Partnership for Drug Free Kids to launch a Medication Disposal for Safer Communities Program.
Through the program, the department has a collection unit allowing for environmentally safe disposal of expired or unused medications. Only non-controlled drugs and schedule II, III, IV, and V controlled substances can be accepted. These items include prescriptions, prescription patches, prescription medications, prescription ointments, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, samples, and medications for pets. Items that will not be accepted include thermometers, hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, aerosol cans, ointments, liquids, lotions, medications from businesses or clinics and needles.
The secure drug collection unit is available to the public 24 hours a day in the front lobby of the Huntingburg Police Department, 503 E. 1st. Street. No appointment is necessary to drop off the allowed items.
