Huntingburg teen seriously injured in moped accident
Huntingburg — A Huntingburg teen was seriously injured when the scooter he was on was struck by a car Wednesday at about 3:30 a.m.
According to police, Damien E. Fox, 18, of N. Chestnut Street, was southbound on Chestnut Street and crossed 6th Street/State Road 64 without yielding to oncoming traffic. When he entered the intersection, the scooter he was on was struck by an oncoming 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jose M. Valdez Mendoza, 26, of N. Geiger Street.
Fox sustained serious internal and head injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital. Fox will be transferred to another facility for treatment.
Mendoza and a passenger in the Malibu were uninjured in the accident.
The accident is still under investigation, according to police.
Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and a KARS wrecker assisted at the scene.
