Two teens injured in ATV accident
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a Pike County all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident in which two teens were injured.
On Sunday at about 3:52 p.m., Indiana Conservation Officer Kenny Tincher and Conservation Officer Cpl. Eric Doane responded to an ATV accident with injuries in Pike County.
According to authorities, Jonathan Schum, 18, of Huntingburg, was operating a Honda 400 EX ATV southbound on County Road 1075E in Velpen at a high rate of speed when Marilyn Hanselman, 47, of Velpen, pulled from a private driveway into the road. Schum’s ATV collided with the front drivers side of Hanselman’s SUV and flipped in the air, throwing Schum and a 16-year-old passenger, Paige Kluemper of Petersburg, from the ATV.
Schum was trapped beneath the ATV.
He was Air-Evaced to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville where he was treated for a laceration to his head. Kluemper was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with minor injuries.
Indiana Conservation Officers were assisted on-scene by Pike County EMS and Deaconess Air-Evac.
Alcohol may be a contributing factor and the accident is still being investigated.
