Huntingburg police reporting potential medical scam in area

Elderly residents in Huntingburg are being targeted for a potential medical scam.

According to Huntingburg Detective Sergeant Ronnie Bowman the callers are contacting senior citizens and using basic information about the citizen to build rapport. The callers tell the senior citizen they have been selected to receive discount medical cards to assist with doctors visits, medication and other expenses. They then ask the residents for their checking account numbers so they can have the cards shipped right away.

According to Bowman there have been two of the reports today and both times the victims hung up before giving any personal information.

The Huntingburg Police Department is reminding all citizens to never give out any personal or banking information over the phone, especially if the call is unsolicited. If you do receive such a call please contact the local police.
