Huntingburg Park Board meeting

The new Bombers bus

The Huntingburg Park Board heard from Parks and Recreation Director Jim Rueger about the status of the proposed splash park.

Rueger stated the contractors that install these types of facilities are busy now with installations and would be hard pressed to submit estimates. He did state he should have something from three separate companies by the next Park Board meeting (May 21).

Rueger then presented the donation guidelines for pool passes. The Park Board requested the guidelines be drawn up in response to the requests for donations of pool passes from local fundraisers and non-profits. Rueger had stated at the last meeting the requests were excessive and he recommended guidelines for regulating the donations. The guidelines presented were approved unanimously.

Rueger then gave the Board a projects report.

The curb on first street is complete and waiting for the streets department to finish

Niehaus bathroom is constructed and will hopefully be finished by the next meeting.

The new backstop at the Southside park is constructed.

Landscaping and the new driveway is being worked on at Niehaus Park.

Rueger stated maintenance at League Stadium is continuous.

The Huntingburg Golf Driving Range has taken in $1700.00 so far this season; $1000.00 ahead of last year. Rueger stated the warm weather has contributed to the popularity.

Bob Schipley will be replacing Jack Amos as a part-time employee for the Parks Department.

A lease with Southridge Aquatic Raider Gators (SARG) was approved by the board. Rueger recommended increasing their lease rate if they continued to use the city pool.

Gary Freymiller, co-owner and manager for the Dubois County Bombers, approached the board about the formation of the League Stadium Advisory Board.

The advisory board will be composed of the Huntingburg mayor, Park Board President (or appointee), Parks Director, Director of the Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce, Director of Dubois County Tourism, representatives of the Dubois County Bombers, Chair of the Huntingburg Tourism Council, an appointee by the Huntingburg mayor, and an appointee by Dubois County Tourism.

Freymiller stated the recent reformation of the League Stadium Board was necessary to continue the improvements to the Stadium and marketing.

Freymiller also informed the board the group would be working on a logo for League Stadium to be added to the back of the bus. This is to further market the Stadium outside of the area.

The mayor stated the group is important to continue the marketing and improvements of League Stadium.

The board asked about event outside of the realm of baseball. The stadium has been used for wrestling matches, concerts, a christmas light display and last year it was used as a movie theater.
