Huntingburg Music Club meets
The Huntingburg Music Club held its first meeting of the 2026-2027 year on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Central Christian Church in Huntingburg.
A total of ten members and four guests enjoyed the traditional fall meeting kick-off pitch-in dinner before discussing Club business and then enjoying a variety of musical pieces performed by the Club Program Committee.
In the absence of Club President Kathy Tenbarge, who was unable to attend, Vice President Janice Menke conducted the meeting according to the Club bylaws. After welcoming members and their guests, she led members in singing the Doxology to bless the meal.
After dinner, Vice President Menke resumed the meeting. After members collected their folders containing their assigned pieces for the coming year as well as the current program book, she led the members in praying the Collect.
Secretary Angie McDonald took the roll, with members sharing a cherished memory as the roll call. Meeting minutes from the last meeting in April were read and approved, while other minutes not previously read were archived and made available upon request.
Treasurer Becky Brockriede gave the Treasurer’s report, collected membership dues, and reimbursed the Program Committee for out-of-pocket purchases of music and music copies. It was also reported that last year’s scholarship recipient had deposited the Club’s award.
Three members have expressed a change in their membership status, including one drop and two inactive who will resume at a later date.
In new business, the Program Committee has secured the Old Town Hall for the joint meeting with the Jasper Philharmonic on February 23, 2027. A refreshment committee will be created for the event.
The Huntingburg Community Thanksgiving Service will be held on Sunday, November 22 at the Huntingburg United Methodist Church, with Kathy Tenbarge set to direct a community choir for the event.
Regarding local music events, there will be a free concert of piano classical music at the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Bede Theatre on October 3, and a free concert celebrating the music of St. Hildegard of Bingen at the Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand on October 17.
Following the business meeting, everyone entered the church sanctuary for the evening’s “Meandering Down Memory Lane”-themed program.
Members first warmed up with “I’ll Be Seeing You,” accompanied by Angie McDonald on piano. The Program Committee then presented the evening’s selections. Carynne Diekmann and Rhonda LeClere first sang “In My Life”, accompanied by Angie McDonald on piano, followed by “Green Fields” sung by vocal duo Rhonda LeClere and Angie McDonald, with Angie accompanying on guitar. Carynne Diekmann sang “Memory,” accompanied by Angie McDonald on piano, followed by the piano solo, “To a Wild Rose,” played by Angie McDonald. The final piece, a group singalong of “Sweet Caroline,” was accompanied by Angie McDonald on guitar.
The Huntingburg Music Club will meet next month on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jasper at 6:30 p.m.
