Huntingburg Music Club meeting notes

The Huntingburg Music Club met at 7:00 p.m. at Holland United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 26.

After reciting the Collect, members then answered the roll call with naming a stage musical they would enjoy seeing. A wide variety of shows were mentioned, including the current Broadway smash hit “Hamilton,” “Ragtime” (coming to Evansville on May 13), “Hair,” “The Producers,” “Showboat,” and “South Pacific,” among many others.

During the business meeting, members elected a new slate of officers for 2016-2017: Angie McDonald, president; Janice Menke, vice president; Amy Price, recording secretary; Connie Nass, corresponding secretary; and Steve Sanchez, treasurer.

After concluding the club’s business, members and guests then enjoyed a number of selections from Lerner and Loew’s perennial favorite, “My Fair Lady.”

Theresa Sanchez kicked off the evening with “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” accompanied by Becky Brockriede on the piano.

The less familiar “Just You Wait” was sung by the vocal ensemble of Janice Menke, Leah Hayworth, Connie Nass, Kim McConnell, and Judy Martindale. Following the vocal group, Paula Alles sang “I Could Have Danced All Night” with audience participation on the chorus. Kathy Tenbarge accompanied both songs on piano.

“On the Street Where You Live” was sung by the vocal ensemble of Terri Bartelt, Carolyn Winkler, Amy Price, and Carol Wiggins, accompanied by Kim McConnell on the piano.

The grand finale of the evening was presented by Tom Martindale and Steve Sanchez in “With a Little Bit of Luck,” accompanied by Devin Craig on the piano. Guest Mel Menke, husband of member Janice Menke, joined the duo to make it a spontaneous trio.

Following the program, everyone enjoyed a variety of delicious “My Fair Lady”-themed refreshments provided by hostesses Sharon Wertman, Helen Grewe, and Janice Menke.

The Huntingburg Music Club will reconvene in September for the start of the 2016-2017 year.
