The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) announced today that Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner was recently appointed to the IACT Board of Directors.

“Mayor Spinner has continually impressed me with his commitment to Huntingburg and passion for those he serves,” said IACT Executive Director & CEO Matt Greller.  “His years of dedication to his community make him an ideal candidate to advocate on behalf of city and town leaders all across our state.”

Spinner’s term begins immediately and expires Dec. 31, 2013. He fills a board vacancy left by the resignation of Sellersburg Clerk-Treasurer David Kinder.

“There is a history of Huntingburg’s mayor having meaningful involvement in IACT,” noted Spinner. “I am honored to continue this tradition by serving on the association’s board of directors.  I am eager to be a voice for small communities across the state, whether it’s protecting the already strained fiscal resources of cities and towns, urging flexibility for creating the kind of quality communities where businesses want to grow or locate, or insisting that municipal issues be decided at city hall and not at the Statehouse.”

Elected in 2011, Spinner is currently serving his first term in office.

“Mayor Spinner has been a vocal supporter for more school resource officers and regularly emphasizes the important role city and town leaders play in providing the quality of life Hoosiers have grown to expect,” Greller said.

IACT also made other appointments to its board of directors, including Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. Winnecke is filling a vacancy left by Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett who was named IACT 2nd Vice President in February.

The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) is a coalition of municipal officials who seek to improve the quality of life in Indiana through effective government, and is a member of the National League of Cities. Founded in 1891, IACT is one of the oldest state municipal organizations in the country, with 470 cities and towns as members.  IACT advocates for municipalities as the official voice of municipal government in Indiana, and promotes good government through education, training and leadership.
