Huntingburg man facing child pornography charge

A Huntingburg man was arrested after a lengthy investigation into allegations of possession of child pornography.

According to police, members of the Jasper Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cyber tip about child pornography being stored by an online user in the Dubois County area on August 2, 2024. Through the investigation, JPD detectives identified the online user as Mr. Roberto Linares Mezquita, 18, of Huntingburg.

On November 22, 2024, a search warrant was executed at Mr. Mezquita’s Huntingburg residence, where several electronic items were seized. JPD detectives found that Mr. Mezquita possessed numerous online video files of unidentified children believed to be under the age of 12.

Police said Mr. Mezquita was questioned about the videos and images and admitted to possessing the illicit material. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Dubois County Security Center on a preliminary Level 5 felony count of possession of child pornography.

The investigation is ongoing, and more charges could be added later. The Jasper Police Department was assisted by the Huntingburg Police Department and the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office.

All named suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
