Huntingburg Library renovations continue

Alicia Kunkler read to her son, Harvey, 7, at the Huntingburg Public Library’s new children’s area Monday morning. They were glad the library had reopened, and Alicia pointed out that the downstairs was very different than the last time they had visited before the renovations.

Work has closed the top portion of the Huntingburg Public Library, but the downstairs updated area is open for patrons.

According to Director Lisa McWilliams, the full renovation is expected to be complete by September 30th.

But for now, they are operating with a large number of the library’s items held in temporary storage in the new children’s activity area.

The library closed for two weeks earlier this month to install shelves and move items to make way for the continued renovations. McWilliams said they have been busy since reopening, and visitors have enjoyed the new furniture and additions in the children’s area.

Andrew Borman, 5, hopped on one of the new couches in the children’s area of the Huntingburg Library Monday morning. He and his mom, Sandy Avolos, were spending some time on the computer.
Hank Kunkler, 5, worked on a puzzle while his mom read a book nearby in the newly furnished area at the entrance to the children’s section of the Huntingburg Library.
Tree shelves decorate the children’s area, and a new mural covers the wall around the reading corner.

(Correction: the article originally stated the renovations would be done by the first week of September, but that was incorrect.)
