Huntingburg Mayor Denny Spinner and new council members sworn into office on Sunday

One returning city council member, four new city council members and Mayor Denny Spinner took office on Sunday at the Huntingburg Old Town Hall. Every seat at the event was taken and some in attendance stood to watch the proceedings.

Those in attendance included most of the Huntingburg Fire Department who presented Huntingburg Fire Chief Glen Kissling with an award for his many years of service. The newly elected Kissling recently announced his resignation as fire chief to serve as councilman for the city of Huntingburg.

  1. There are a lot of issues that need to be tackled. I hope he is up to the challenge but I remain skeptical. During Marvin Belcher's administration it was pointed out that a water main under Fourth Street needs addressed. That became clear when it broke last year. If that's not addressed the city will have a real flood on our hands and not one created by a film crew. Another issue is U.S. 231. The whole span in Dubois Co. is in real bad shape. Of course it gets repaved or repaired but within a year you can't tell it was fixed. The mayor needs to get involved with and push getting some kind of four lane highway project going. Jasper is already committed, why not Huntingburg? The City of Jasper and the county have adopted tax abatement programs, we need to got on the ball with that also or get left behind. If we don't move forward on the issues, I will loose my positive attitude towards the city, I will loose my pride in the city, and there sure won't be any progress.

  2. Tom,
I don't understand your skepticism. He hasn't even had one day in office. All of the things you mention here should have been addressed by the prior administration. I'm not sure that you have a positive attitude and any pride in the city.

  3. It just means that I reserve judgement until I see what kind of person he really is. I don't know the guy, I just know what I heard. In the election, candidates are going to talk a big game, they want your vote. I want to see him work first. The Fourth Street water main is a new issue that was pointed out by the previous administration. They got the ball rolling but it's up to the new administration to finish it. Highway 231 is an issue that no administration addressed properly, it's an ongoing issue that never gets fixed right. I just want to see some real action. A four lane highway will help alleviate that. I have a positive attitude and pride for the city. I just want to see the city more forward not backward.
