Huntingburg hires Steckler as Communications and Community Development Director

The City of Huntingburg welcomed Rachel Steckler as the city’s new Communications and Community Development Director.
According to Mayor Denny Spinner, Steckler attended the Listening Sessions held by the city last year and saw that communications was a major concern among the citizens of the city. “She came to me and said if we ever had a position available involving communications and community development, this was her passion and she was interested in applying for the position.”
The council passed the ordinance to create the position in April and Steckler was one of about six applications the city received.
“Communications is my passion,” Steckler said, “and during the listening sessions many citizens noted the need to have better communications between the residents and the city.”
Steckler’s first major project is working with the eGov on the new city website. Steckler attended the Dubois County Leadership Academy last year and her team created the Experience Dubois County app that is still in development.
Steckler has been a resident of Huntingburg since 2007. She is married to Ben Steckler and has three children; Parker (4), Sawyer (2 1/2), and Cooper (2 months). She received her degree in public relations from Indiana State in 2007 and most recently worked for Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
“I love people,” she said. “I am really excited to be the person developing better communications between the city and its residents.”
