Huntingburg hires new code enforcement officer

Souders

Huntingburg has a new Code Enforcement Officer. Kurt Souders, a former DNR Conservation Officer, took over the position last week.

Souders is a Dubois County resident who calls Huntingburg his hometown. He and his wife Penny live in St. Henry.

During his introduction to the Huntingburg Board of Public Works, Paul Lake, the City Planning Director, joked that the board may know Souders already; Souders’ brother Keith is one member of the three-person board.

The 54-year-old retired from DNR in 2015 after 27 years as a conservation officer. Souders said he was looking forward to the being out working with the public. “Huntingburg has always been a clean town, hopefully, we’ll keep it that way,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting out there and meeting people.”

Souders will be working three mornings and two afternoons weekly.

Lake told the board that Souders first step in the violation process would include a knock on the person’s door to talk to them face to face.

Souders has an associate degree in conservation law enforcement from Vincennes University. He also has a general studies degree from IU and studied mining engineering at the University of Southern Indiana.
