After confirmation with Tammy Miller, Director of the Dubois County Emergency Management Agency, the Huntingburg Foundation’s Grant Committee has announced its intent of a $3,000 pro-active grant designated for seed money of a Disaster Relief Fund in Southwestern Dubois County.
The Fund is designed to accept contributions today and in the event of disaster to quickly and adequately disburse funds to agencies serving victims and the community in response to crisis.
Due to the significant storms of the South and Midwest, and in response to the tornadoes, high winds, and flooding of our area, the Foundation is preparing itself to serve as the charitable vehicle for contributions and funding of relief and recovery activities when disaster strikes.
“Agencies serving victims and the community in the midst of disaster do not have the capacity to manage and coordinate the outpouring of support from donors,” said Tammy Miller. Therefore, the Foundation will serve as the vehicle to assure resources are in place when the agencies need it most.
“Having this fund in place, and the Foundation coordinating the acceptance of gifts and funding needs, will dramatically support the relief efforts while agencies are most pressed,” said Miller during her meeting with the Foundation.
“At this point, we have offered Tammy the opportunity to host a public meeting at the Old Town Hall on Thursday, June 9 at 9:00 AM to begin formulating a disaster relief fund and plan for our area,” says Brad Ward, Executive Director.
The Foundation is inviting the general public, government agencies, nonprofits, and individuals interested in disaster response to begin the dialogue and collecting of funds to prepare for disaster. To learn more, visit the Foundation’s website at www.huntingburgfoundation.org.
The Huntingburg Foundation’s mission is to give people the power to improve their community and leave a lasting legacy. As the Community Foundation of Southwest Dubois County, it serves as a charitable vehicle for donors who have invested over $1.8 million in grants since 1995.
The Foundation is operated by two professional staff and governed by a 15-member volunteer board. To learn more about the Foundation and its SRD plan, visit www.huntingburgfoundation.org.
