Huntingburg Foundation grants $2000 to local financial and entrepreneur programs

Huntingburg, July 19, 2011: The Huntingburg Foundation has administered two grants to strengthen financial literacy and entrepreneurial programs in the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation. Junior Achievement and Business Professionals of America will benefit from the grants.

“The opportunities demonstrated by Ferdinand under the Hometown Competiveness grant inspired our Foundation to ask the question of financial literacy and entrepreneurship in our schools,” stated Brad Ward, Executive Director. “We were delighted to see the various activities already going on, and JA and BPA offered clear objectives of how they could advance their causes with grant funds.”

Junior Achievement will receive $1,000 matching grant to provide funds for their programs in the elementary classrooms. JA is in the process of establishing a local advisory board, which will seek the necessary matching contributions to maintain the elementary school programs and match this grant award. In addition, a pro-active grant for $500 will be used to make JA Company Program accessible to local high school students in the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation.

The JA Company Program includes basic entrepreneurial and business economic education opportunities for students.

Business Professionals of America will receive a $500 grant to strengthen the BPA program at Southridge High School, which focuses on basic financial, entrepreneurial and business economic skills to high school students. Their intent is to underwrite the participation in student competitions and trainings to excel the business and communication skills of our future professionals.

“The Foundation believes in building capacity for local programs that provide entrepreneurial education and financial literacy to elementary through high school aged students,” said Sue Hubster, Grants Chairperson. “It is a great way to develop the skills of financial literacy in our next generation of responsible citizens and, hopefully, future entrepreneurs for our community.”

The Huntingburg Foundation’s mission is to give people the power to improve their community and leave a lasting legacy.
