Huntingburg Foundation announces Scholarship awards
The Huntingburg Foundation is pleased to announce over $35,000 in scholarship aid to graduating area students. The recipients for the 2011-2012 academic year administered by the Community Foundation include students of Southridge and Jasper High Schools.
Field-of-Interest Awards at Southridge High School
Marian Klausmeier Roettger Scholarship Fund was established by Mr. Roettger in memory of his wife to support a graduating senior of the Southwest School Corporation in pursuit of a post-secondary degree in business or accounting. The recipient of the renewable four-year scholarship award that provides $2,000 per year is, Mackenzi Seib. Mackenzi, daughter of Dayna and Kevin Seib, will attend Indiana University to study Business.
St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary Hospital Fund was established to commemorate the years of healthcare support of volunteers for the Auxiliary organization of St. Joseph’s Hospital provided to our community. The endowment benefits students graduating from Southridge High School and will provide a one-time award of $1,000 to Vanessa Kern in pursuit of post-secondary studies in the healthcare field. Vanessa, the daughter of Mary and Timothy Kern, will study Dental Hygiene at University of Southern Indiana.
Arnold A. Schwartz Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Elizabeth Schwartz in memory of her husband to benefit a Southridge High School graduate pursuing post-secondary education in the fields of science, engineering, or math. Austin Ingram is the recipient of the one-time $1,000 scholarship award. Austin, son of Angela and James Ingram, will attend Purdue University to study Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Marcia Scanlon Scholarship Fund was established in memory of a dedicated elementary school teacher in the Southwest School Corporation who lost her battle with cancer at a young age. This scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate of Southridge High School interested in pursuing a college degree in education. A one-time award of $300 has been awarded to Kyle Baseden in pursuit of post-secondary studies in education. Kyle, son of Jennifer and Keith Baseden, will attend Ball State University and study Chemistry Education.
Larry G. Dugle Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of the former Southwest School Corporation Superintendent. A one-time scholarship award of $1,000 is awarded to Corey Egler. Corey, son of Bonnie and Cyril Egler, will attend Wabash College to study Political Science. Jeanette Rauscher Scholarship Endowment was established by Ms. Rauscher to support a graduating senior of Southridge High School in pursuit of a post-secondary degree. Canaan Meyer and Brooke Neuhoff are each recipients of a one-time $900 scholarship award. Canaan, daughter of Jane and Timothy Meyer, will attend Asbury University to study Social Work. Brooke, daughter of Brenda and Harold Neuhoff, will attend University of Southern Indiana to study Accounting and Professional Services.
Ruby and Dick Smith Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in dedication of their commitment to Huntingburg and the pursuit of education. General scholarships are provided to Southridge High School graduates in pursuit of a post-secondary degree. The recipient of the one-time $600 scholarship award is Mariah Ferguson. Mariah, daughter of Marian and Randall Ferguson, plans to attend the University of Evansville to study Physical Therapy.
Fred Souders & Lee Ray Olinger Aviation Scholarship was established by Greg and Eric Olinger, and Fred Souders on behalf of their family to support a Dubois County graduate who wishes to pursue postsecondary education in any career related to the field of aviation including aeronautics engineering, mechanics, controller, pilot, etc. Chase Morrison is the recipient of the one-time $1,000 scholarship award. Chase, son of Teresa and Kevin Morrison from Huntingburg, attends Purdue University and studies Aeronautical Engineering Technology. Chase is also the recipient of the one-time $600 award from Frosty M. and Muriel Jones Scholarship Endowment. This scholarship is also awarded to a Southridge High School graduate enrolled in an accredited university or college in the field of aviation.
Dale Helmerich Boy Scout Troop 181 Scholarship Fund was established in memory of former Mayor Dale Helmerich to commemorate his support of the local Boy Scout Troup 181. It is intended to benefit the future education of a Boy Scout Troop 181 member who has achieved their Life Scout rank. Michael Fenneman is the recipient of the one-time $500 scholarship award. Michael, son of Rebecca and John Fenneman, will attend Indiana State University to study Elementary Education.
Orlan “Mockey” Lett Scholarship Endowment Fund was established in memory of Mr. Lett to commemorate his dedication to higher education. It is intended to benefit persons living in the Southwest School Corporation who are adults returning to higher education or college students who have completed their first year of education. The recipient of the one-time $700 scholarship award is Olivia Ingle. Olivia, daughter of Angie and Glenn Ingle, is currently studying Journalism at Butler University.
Mary Lee Schurz Healthcare Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 in memory of Mary Lee Schurz to further enhance the educational opportunities of students from the Southwest Dubois County School Corporation interested in pursuing a secondary education in the healthcare field. Sara Messmer is the recipient of this one-time $500 scholarship award. Sara, daughter of Ann and Timothy Messmer, plans to attend University of Evansville to study Nursing.
County Scholarship Awards Sarah Gobert Scholarship Fund was established by the Dubois County Leukemia Association in memory of Sarah Gobert, a young child whose thirteen months battle with leukemia ended in October of 1998, benefits students graduating from any of the four school districts of Dubois County who wish to pursue post-secondary education in the medical or healthcare professions. Emily Gress and Luke Rogers of Jasper High School are each recipients of the one-time $2,500 scholarship award. Emily, daughter of Pamela and Darren Gress, is attending Purdue University to study Nursing. Luke Rogers, son of Karen and Christopher Rogers, also plans to attend Purdue University to study Biology/Pre-Dentistry.
Denise Davis-Thompson Scholarship Fund was established by the generosity of Mr. Thompson in honor of his wife, Denise Davis-Thompson, in recognition of her dedicated service to the hearing impaired of Dubois, Perry, and Spencer counties offers a one-time award of $500 to a graduate of any named county in pursuit of post-secondary studies to assist children and adults with hearing impairments. This year’s recipient is Christian Schnarr of Jasper High School. Christian, son of Carlene Schroeder and Glenn Schnarr, attends the University of Southern Indiana. Adam Sander, son of Jerry and Sharon Sander, is also the recipient of a one-time award of $250. Sander plans on attending Indiana State University.
Parke-Bell Ltd., Inc. Scholarship Fund was established in support of a child or grandchild of a current employee of Parke-Bell Ltd., Inc. or a current employee of Parke-Bell Ltd., Inc. who intends to pursue further education after graduation from high school. Blake Schipp of Southridge High School is the recipient of a one-time $1,000 scholarship award. Blake, son of Suzanne and David Schipp, will attend Purdue University to study Electrical Engineering Technology.
Athletic-Related Awards at Southridge High School Trent-Singer Scholarship Fund was established by the families in memory of Gordon Singer, Jr. and Todd Trent to benefit students graduating from Southridge High School and having participated in high school athletics. Cory Ingram is the recipient of the one-time $500 scholarship award. Cory, son of Sherri and Kenneth Ingram, will be attending University of Southern Indiana to study Nursing.
Jason Feldmeyer Memorial Scholarship Fund was established for the 2000 graduate of Southridge High School and golf team standout, Jason Feldmeyer, to offer a scholarship award for current Southridge High School senior golf members pursuing a post-secondary education. Recipients are Philip Buening, Corey Egler, and Austin Ingram for a $2,500, one-time scholarship award. Philip, son of Christine and Lawerance Buening, plans to attend University of Southern Indiana to study Business Management. Corey, son of Bonnie and Cyril Egler, will attend Wabash College to study Political Science. Austin, son of Angela and James Ingram, plans to attend Purdue University to study Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Zachary King Scholarship Fund was established in memory of a Southridge High School student who participated in athletic programs and at age sixteen lost his life due to an automobile accident. The award is made available to a Southridge High School graduate who participated in high school athletics. Brandon Gasser, son of Misty and Matthew Gasser, is the recipient of a one-time $250 scholarship award. Renewal Scholarships
Owen Roettger Scholarship Endowment was established by the late Mr. Roettger to support a graduating senior of the Southwest School Corporation in pursuit of a post-secondary degree in music. Brooke Lubbehusen, Danielle Wehr, Sarah Kendall, and Brooke Boileau are the recipients of the fouryear scholarship award that provides $1,000 per year. Brooke, daughter of Tamara and Kevin Lubbehusen, attends Indiana State University. Danielle, daughter of Jacqueline and Timothy Wehr, attends Indiana University. Sarah, daughter of John and Beth Kendall, attends Murray State University. Brooke, daughter of Clark and Christine Boileau, attends Indiana State University.

Spirit of Southridge Scholarship Endowment was established by sportswriter J.A. (Al) Dotterweich to honor outstanding senior athletes at Southridge High School and support their future college endeavors. Recipients of the one-time $250 scholarship awards were Elliot Prusz, Mackenzi Seib, Mariah Ferguson, and Cory Ingram. Elliot, son of Sara and Don Prusz, will attend Purdue University to study Electrical Engineering. Makenzi, daughter of Dayna and Kevin Seib, will attend Indiana University to study Business. Mariah, daughter of Marian and Randall Ferguson, will attend the University of Evansville to study Physical Therapy.
Family Scholarship Awards at Southridge High School
Uebelhor Family Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the family in memory of the late Walter and Mary Louise Uebelhor and Mary Ann Uebelhor in support of a Southridge High School graduate in pursuit of a post-secondary education degree in elementary education. Erin Julian is the recipient of the one-time $1,700 scholarship award. Erin, daughter of Rebecca and Robert Julian, will attend Indiana State University to study Elementary Education.
Steinkamp Family Scholarship Fund was established by the Steinkamp family in memory of Alice M. Steinkamp Ring to support a Southridge High School graduate in pursuit of a post-secondary degree at the University of Evansville. Tyson Buening, son of Janice Buening, is the recipient of a one-time $1,300 scholarship award. He plans to attend University of Evansville to study Pre-Optometry/Biology.
