Huntingburg Council meeting notes

The Huntingburg City Council held their second and final meeting of the month and worked through a shortened agenda.

First, Huntingburg Chamber Director Nick Stevens thanked the council for their help and support during recent events – the car show and the just completed Jazz Fest. Stevens reported that they had over 1,000 attendees at the Jazz Fest and that the event is becoming a local favorite. [hr]

Mayor Denny Spinner asked the council to consider adoption of ordinance 2013-16 which sets new fees for parking violations in the City. The council passed the ordinance 4 to 0 (with Steve McPherron absent from the meeting).

Rates will be $10 for overtime parking, $20 for improper parking, and $50 for handicap parking violations.

Spinner stated the increases take effect immediately after the City advertises the changes.[hr]

Next, the mayor brought before the council the salary for the Water and Energy Superintendents, which was previously up for discussion due to the creation of the two positions in the Utility Department. The council passed the update to the salary ordinance.[hr]

After the council heard from both Utility Superintendents with their monthly updates, the mayor called for adjournment. [hr]

Mayor Spinner attendended a Young Entrepreneurs Event held on the campus of the University of Indianapolis on Thursday morning. “They were all given 90 seconds to make their pitch to the crowd,” he explained. “We then had an opportunity to interview them and hear what they are seeking in a community. The range of ideas we heard was tremendous.”

He said that he talked to two or three who might be interested in Huntingburg as a place to start their business.

The Young Entrepreneur program was started by Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann, while she was State Representative for District 74.
