Huntingburg Council approves wastewater rate increase to support new plant, infrastructure

The Huntingburg Council approved the recommended sewer rate increase to accommodate the updated wastewater treatment plant.

In April, at a combined meeting of the Huntingburg Board of Public Works, the Huntingburg Rate Advisory Board and the council, which also serves as the utility service board, the council discussed the reason for the increase and the need for updates at the wastewater treatment plant.

Last week, the council approved increasing rates beginning in June to the recommended amounts the city heard from Buzz Krohn of O.W. Krohn and Associates, the city’s financial advisor. He recommended that the city increase that rate 17.5 percent to $7.40 per 100 cubic feet in June payable in July with a $37.29 base rate. And then in January, increase it by another 10 percent to $8.15 per 100 cubic feet with a $41 base rate.

The council approved the rate increase unanimously.
