Huntingburg adding up to 2 miles of road to its inventory
Huntingburg — Street Superintendent Jason Stamm informed the board of public works that he has inventoried about 2 miles of streets in Huntingburg that aren’t included in the city’s ordinances.
Stamm determined this as the department is in the process of completing a GPS survey of all the signs in the city.
According to Stamm the ordinances regarding the additional streets have not been updated in some time. “In the past few years things have slipped through the cracks,” Stamm said. “The new streets added have not gone through the proper process has not occurred to add them to the books.”
Stamm stated the last ordinance they have found that added a street to the city inventory was in 2002.
These are the sections of streets or streets Stamm has found so far that need to be added.
- Highland Drive
- Seventh Street from Chestnut Street to Styline Drive
- Geiger Street from 13th to 14th Street
- Woodland Drive
- Pinewood Court
- Fifth Avenue
- Orchard Lane
- Third Street
Huntingburg currently has over 39 miles of streets it is responsible for and the additional roads are expected to add at least two miles to that amount.
The additional miles will affect the funds the city receives from the State of Indiana for street maintenance and repairs. In 2012 the city received $138,834 from the state Motor Vehicle Highway fund and $32,157 from the Local Road and Street fund.
Clerk/Treasurer Tom Dippel stated he expected those amounts to increase with the added mileage to the city street inventory.
