Huntingburg 4-year-old mauled by dog
Huntingburg — Police don’t know what caused a pit bull to attack a 4-year-old boy in Huntingburg Monday afternoon.
According to Huntingburg Assistant Chief Ronnie Bowman, officers responded to 505 Seventh Street at about 3:30 p.m. for the report of a child that had been attacked by a pit bull at the residence. The home is the residence of Bennett Perez, the grandfather of the victim.
Bowman said 4-year-old Terrance Perez sustained serious injuries to his face and head during the attack. He was taken to Memorial Hospital where he was operated on overnight.
The victim’s mother, Danielle Wigodinski, 32, who has the Seventh Street address listed as her residence, was home with her child. According to police, Terrance has an Evansville address.
The dog belonging to the victim’s father was taken from the home by the Animal Control Team of Dubois County and placed in isolation. Bowman said the animal was current on its rabies vaccinations.
No charges have been filed in the incident, but it remains under investigation.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services assisted.
According to Bowman, the department responds to a handful of dog bites annually although they are not typically so severe. Bowman also stated the attacks are not specific to any breed.
