Hugo J. Wagner, 90, of Ferdinand, passed away Tuesday May 13 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Hugo was born August 27, 1923 in Mariah Hill to Leo F. & Minnie (Mehling) Wagner.

He married Delores N. Niehaus on June 3, 1947 in St. Martin Of Tours Catholic Church, Siberia, IN. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2010.

Hugo was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, and Huntingburg V.F.W. Post 2366. Hugo was a WWII ARMY Veteran and served in Burma, Eastern Theatre. He was a member of Merrill’s Marauders. He retired from Jasper Cabinet after 48 years.

Besides his wife he was preceded in death by five sisters, Marie and Martha Wagner, Julie Chester, Lena Laws, Loretta Ringenberg; two brothers, Henry and  Andrew Wagner.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis E. Wagner of Louisville and Leroy A. Wagner and wife, Judy, of Ferdinand; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Maffenbeier of Jasper and Mrs. William “Bill” Smalley of Jeffersontown, Ky.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday and 7-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand.
