Hugh Douglas “Doug” Abbett, 63

Hugh Douglas “Doug” Abbett , age 63, of Jasper, passed away at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2013, at home.

Doug was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 5, 1950 to Pierce and Fredda (Miller) Abbett. He married Susan Ruxer on December 27, 1972 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.

Doug was the owner of Ruxer Ford Lincoln automobile dealership in Jasper, Indiana for 40 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as a Lector and on the Finance and Building Committees. He also served on the Jasper Community Arts Commission, and was a member of the Indiana Automobile Dealers Association, and the National Automobile Dealers Association.

He enjoyed fishing, golf, woodworking, playing drums in his band “The Wyndsors” and spending time with his grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Abbett of Jasper; two sons, Philip Abbett and his wife Lori, and Nick Abbett and his wife Anne, both of Jasper; two grandsons, Branton Abbett, and Piercen Abbett; one brother, John Abbett, McLean, Va.; one sister, Ann Berner, of Osprey, Fla.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Pierce and Fredda Abbett.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow at a later date at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Dubois County Humane Society, The Jasper Arts Commission, Freedom Reins, or St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
