Hoosier National Forest Birdseye Trail section temporarily closed

Due to forest management activities involving heavy equipment, a short section of the Birdseye Trail north of Governor’s Trace Rd. and east of Riceville Rd. will be temporarily closed to the public for safety until further notice.

The rest of the 11.6-mile, multiple-use trail will be available for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking. Horses and mountain bike riders (age 17 years and older) are required to have a permit and stay on trails designated for that type of use.

Birdseye trail winds through shady hardwood forests and covers a variety of terrain. Landscape features include a lake, creeks, old homesteads and a cemetery.

The Hemlock Cliffs Trail near English, Indiana is a nearby one-mile hiking trail that can be visited as an alternative.
