Home Instead Senior Care opens a new office in Jasper

Not everyone is allowed the privilege of living the ends of their lives with grace and dignity. Unfortunately sickness happens, accidents happen, and life happens. We all know that we are living longer than ever before and as the boomers age, complications arise that can make that life hard.
The rise of offsite facilities to assist people in their living has always had one problem, many people don’t want to leave their homes due to the care that they need or the limits on their own abilities.
In response, companies have risen to facilitate those needs; providing non-medical caregiving in the clients own home.

Home Instead Senior Care had a grand opening at 216 W. 6th Street. Jasper Chamber of Commerce conducted ribbon cutting and Chamber Director Nancy Eckerle presented the new business its “first dollar of clear profit” during the ceremony on Thursday.
Elizabeth Wagner is the operations manager at the new branch of this Evansville-based franchise. She has been with the company for approximately 4 years and began as a caregiver working her way into this position. She moved up here in November of last year and loves the area.
The Evansville office is the largest office in Indiana. They service several counties including Warrick, Vanderburg, and Knox but have a steadily growing clientele in this area of Southern Indiana. With the amount of growth here, Wagner said it was a natural progression to open an office in Jasper.
According to Dennis Gunther, Director of Operations, the reason for the continued growth of the company is based around the care they take in matching the caregivers with clients. “We sit down with family members and find out what the client likes to do, what TV shows they like to watch, hobbies they have and we match up caregivers with those qualities in mind.” Gunther said. “Then it’s easier for our clients to connect with our caregivers.”
The caregivers are employees of Home Instead and receive training and certification for the services they offer and the list is extensive. Home Instead Senior Care is dedicated to providing in home non-medical caring which includes things like personal services (bathing, eating, grooming), companionship, and household care help such as light chores.
It seems that many people become involved in this type of business or work because of their own personal experience with a loved one or family member. The company was founded by a family after their own experience in caring for their grandmother, Eleanor Manhart. Even though the extended family numbered over 50, it was still a challenge to schedule for her care.
Ben Klipsch, owner of the Evansville office, came into the business after dealing with a similar challenge with his grandmother. “We just didn’t know any service like this was available.” He said.
Recognizing the need and a business opportunity that would be based around care and love, he purchased the business from the previous franchiser in 2008. The business has gone well and he credits it to the fact that they do take the extra steps to ensure good matchups with the clients.
“We have 250 employees now and we started in Evansville with about the same amount as we have working out of this office now.” Gunther explained.
This office currently employs about 50 people and is taking applications all the time. Qualifications are fairly basic as the employees go through extensive training, but they are required to have a caring compassionate personality.
