Holy Trinity principal steps up to Diocese position

Holy Trinity Catholic School principal Sally Sternberg will step up to the Evansville Diocese to serve as the assistant superintendent of schools at the end of the school year.

Sternberg will replace Gwen Godsey as an assistant superintendent of schools. Godsey will be relocating to the Charlotte, N.C., area with her husband Jeff, who has accepted a new position with Berry Plastics.

Sternberg has served as principal of Holy Trinity Catholic School since it opened in August 2015.

“We are so pleased that Mrs. Sternberg will be sharing her time and talents in the Catholic Schools Office,” Diocese of Evansville Superintendent of Schools Daryl Hagan said. “She has a wealth of experience in P-12 education and we look forward to her sharing that knowledge with our parish and school communities.”

Sternberg will assist in overseeing the operations of the 26 Catholic schools in the diocese.

“I am very excited to join the Catholic Schools Office and look forward this new opportunity,” Sternberg said. “I have learned so many things in my experiences as a teacher and as an administrator – especially about growing and being open to new opportunities.”

Sternberg is a native of New Palestine, Ind. She earned an undergraduate degree in secondary education from the University of Evansville. Mathematics was her primary focus and chemistry her supporting focus. While working on her undergraduate degree, she studied abroad at Harlaxton College in Grantham, United Kingdom.  She earned a master’s degree in teaching and her administrative licensure from Oakland City University.

Before becoming Holy Trinity’s first principal, she served five years as principal of Holy Family School in Jasper.  Under her leadership, Holy Family earned recognition in 2013 as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. She taught mathematics and served as Mathematics Department Chair at Southridge High School in Huntingburg before becoming principal of Holy Family. She also taught at Harrison High School and Bosse High School, all part of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.

“I look forward to working with our pastors, school administrators, teachers, students and their families,” Sternberg added. “Our diocese has a wonderful Catholic school community, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the entire community across our 26 schools.”

In her new role, Sternberg’s duties will include serving as coordinator of professional development for non-certified staff; as grant coordinator (DEEP/SEEDS, community grants, etc.); coordinator of social media, website and technology in the Catholic  Schools Office, and assisting schools in these technology areas; also serving as wellness, safety and crisis coordinator, overseeing drills, disaster plans, safe environment guidelines, and related grants. Sternberg also will be involved in a variety of other activities, serving with Hagan and Assistant Superintendent Michelle Priar.

“We are excited that member of our ‘Saints’ family begins a new and exciting chapter in her career,” said Father Gary Kaiser, pastor of Precious Blood Parish in Jasper and St. Mary Parish in Ireland.

He serves as Priest Delegate to Holy Trinity Catholic School. “As I reflect upon Mrs. Sternberg’s advancement to Assistant Superintendent, I look at our School motto.  It seems to me that Sally embodies that motto, ‘Come to Learn, go forth to serve and trust in Divine providence.'”
