Holland town councilman asks Huntingburg to support countywide zoning to stop solar developments

Holland Town Council member John Kaltenbacher asked the Huntingburg Council to work with the county commissioners to develop a countywide zoning ordinance to stymie future solar developments.

He emphasized the need for regional cooperation to address the increasing number of solar projects in the area. His comments come as the town of Holland prepares to sign a resolution opposing solar developments.

The Holland representative reported receiving information about another potential solar company’s interest in areas south of Holland, but he couldn’t confirm the details. He told the council he plans to investigate whether the new area of interest falls within Warrick County or Dubois County.

Kaltenbacher said he would reach out to Warrick County officials to ensure they understood the implications of new solar and battery energy storage systems being installed in their county.

He acknowledged that the Crossvine Solar project is moving forward, but wanted to be proactive in addressing any future developments.

Holland officials are also actively working to inform residents about the solar developments. He explained they have compiled information packets for distribution to all Holland residents, which include project footprint details and QR codes linking to information about solar facility fires.

“We’re trying to get them to everybody in the town of Holland. If you guys would like some, I can get you some at no cost,” he offered to the city council.

He also reminded citizens that Crossvine Solar has scheduled an open house at the Huntingburg Event Center on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. It is open to the public, and the format follows previous community meetings: company representatives will be available to answer questions rather than deliver formal presentations.
