Hit-and-run driver injures 77-year-old Huntingburg man (updated)

Update: The vehicle involved in Saturday’s personal injury hit and run has been located but the Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the incident.

Original: Police are seeking the driver of a Pontiac Sunfire who struck a John Deere Gator side-by-side and injured its 77-year-old driver Saturday morning.

According to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Wilfred A. Buechler, 77, of Huntingburg, was southbound on Saint Anthony Road West at about 10:10 a.m. in a 2011 John Deer Gator. As Buechler turned on the private drive of his farm, a car passed him on the left in a no-passing zone and struck the driver’s side of the Gator.

The impact threw Buechler from the Gator and he tumbled down the driveway. He suffered abrasions and bruises to the left side of his body.

The car did not stop after the crash; it fled the scene.

Deputies were able to determine the car was a pewter or silver Pontiac Sunfire from the pieces of moldings it left at the scene. The pewter or silver Pontiac Sunfire will have damage to its passenger side.

The Gator had about $1,000 in damages, said police.

Saint Anthony Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

Anyone with information about the driver of the car or the car’s location is asked to call the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department at 812-482-3522. All calls can remain anonymous if the caller chooses to do so.
