Hilliard “Max” Englert, 89

Hilliard “Max” Englert, 89, of Ferdinand, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.
He was born in Ferdinand on March 26, 1926, to Adolph and Rose (Gehlhausen) Englert. He married Pauline Kleiser on Aug. 21, 1948, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
Mr. Englert retired as a mechanic at Bolte’s Service Center in Ferdinand. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and served in the Philippines. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, Jasper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 673 and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124. He was a retired fireman with the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and making homebrew and wine.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Englert; two sons, Denny Englert and wife Becky of Ferdinand and Tom Englert and wife Cheryl of Jasper; a sister, Ramona Lindauer of Jasper; two brothers, Floyd Englert and wife Ruth and Sylvan Englert and wife Rosie, both of Ferdinand; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Leatrise Englert.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Henry Catholic Church in St. Henry. Burial will be in St. Ferdinand Church Cemetery in Ferdinand. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
