Hilda L. Schmitt, 83
Hilda L. Schmitt, age 83, of Ireland, passed away at 8:10 p.m., Monday (June 4, 2012) at Brookside Village in Jasper.
Hilda was born on May 21, 1929 in Dubois, Indiana to Theodore and Clara (Theising) Heeke. She married Pat Schmitt on April 27, 1954 in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois, Indiana.
Hilda was Deputy Treasurer for her father, Theodore Heeke from 1957 to 1965. She was Deputy Auditor for Glen Songer from 1966-1974. She was then elected as the first woman Auditor in Dubois County, serving from 1975-1983. She continued to work as Deputy Auditor until she retired from the Dubois County Auditors Office in 1992. She was then elected Madison Township Trustee, and served for one term.
Hilda was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, the St. Ann’s Society of St. Mary’s in Ireland, and the Dubois County Democrat Women’s Club,
She enjoyed gardening, cross-stitching, taking vacations, and going camping.

Funeral services for Hilda L. Schmitt will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday (June 8, 2012) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 1:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday (June 7, 2012) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
