Highway projects to impact Dubois County roadways

The Indiana Department of Transportation has several road projects in the works for state roads in Dubois County. Some will close the highway down while others will bring traffic down to a single lane.

Here are the projects slated to begin.

Bridge rehab project scheduled for SR 64 near Huntingburg

INDOT will perform a complete road closure for State Road 64 near Huntingburg for a bridge project.

Beginning on or around Monday, May 26, contractors will close the S.R. 64 bridge spanning Rock Creek, about 2 miles west of S.R. 161. This project is for repairs to the bridge deck.

During this project local traffic will have access up to the point of closure, but all through traffic should use the official detour following S.R. 61, S.R .68 and S.R. 161. Work is expected to last until the end of June, depending upon weather conditions.

Pipe replacement to close SR 164 near Jasper

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a complete road closure for State Road 164 near Jasper for a drainage structure replacement project.

Beginning on or around Monday, May 26, INDOT Maintenance Crews will close S.R. 164 about 900 feet east of Greener Road just outside of Jasper to replace a drainage culvert. This project will require excavation across all lanes of traffic, and then replacement of the pavement.

During this project local traffic will have access up to the point of closure, but all through traffic should use the official detour following U.S. 231, S.R. 56 and S.R. 545. Work I expected to last for about a day depending upon weather conditions and crews will begin at 7 a.m. However, inclement weather could cause delays in the timeline.

Resurfacing project scheduled for SR 264 in Ferdinand

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces lane restrictions for a pavement rehabilitation project on State Road 264 near Ferdinand.

Beginning on or around Monday, May 26, contractors will close one lane of S.R. 264 from the intersection at S.R. 162 all the way to the end of S.R. 264 for workers to perform deep patching and resurfacing operations. Crews will be fixing areas of pavement that have weakened or deteriorated over time due to normal usage. Once the patches are complete, they will mill the top layer of asphalt off to add a new driving surface.

During this project one lane will be open at all times. However, the open lane will be restricted to a nine-foot width. Loads wider than nine feet will need to seek an alternate route.

Work is expected to be complete by mid-July depending upon weather conditions. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.

Drainage structure replacement to close SR 145 near Birdseye

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced a complete road closure for State Road 145 near Birdseye for a drainage structure replacement project.

Beginning on or around Monday, May 26, contractors will close S.R. 145 about 5 miles north of I64 to replace a small drainage structure. This project will require excavation across all lanes of traffic, and then replacement of the pavement.

During this project local traffic will have access up to the point of closure, but all through traffic should use the official detour following I-64, S.R. 37 and S.R. 145. Work is expected to be complete by the end of July depending upon weather conditions.

The Indiana Department of Transportation will close State Road 162 for a pipe replacement project for State Road 162 near Ferdinand next week. The closure is expected to last until the end of May.

Beginning on or around Monday, May 26, crews will close S.R. 162 between County Road 700 South and C.R. 815 South to excavate and replace a drainage pipe. During this operation, the road will be completely closed to through traffic with detours marked at S.R. 264 and S.R. 64.
