High temps and humidity cause frizzy hair and early closure for Jasper Public Library until AC fixed
The air conditioning is still broken at the Jasper Public Library.
Parts are expected to be in next week and hopefully the 20-year old air conditioning unit will be repaired early the next week.
“A new air conditioning unit would cost about $30,000; repairing this one will be $17,000, so the board decided to repair it.” Library Director Rita Douthitt explained.
Until the repairs are completed the Jasper Public Library will observe the following hours of operation:
- Friday, July 8: close at 2 pm
- Saturday, July 9: 9 am – 2 pm
- Sunday, July 10: 12 pm – 3 pm
Beginning Monday, July 11, the Library will be open:
- Monday thru Saturday, 7 am – 1 pm
- Sunday, 11 am – 2 pm
It is estimated that the system will be back in operation by Tuesday, July 19.
All programs and activities scheduled the week of July 11 have been canceled, EXCEPT, Snakehead Ed. That program will be held on Tuesday, July 12 at 10 am and 2 pm in the Library at 10th Street Elementary School, 328 W. 10th St, Jasper.
Parking is available on 10th Street and in the South parking lot of St. Joseph’s Church. Entrance will be at the “flagpole” entrance.
The book drop at the Jasper Library is available for the return of all items. Patrons holding a library card from Jasper Public Library may also check out and return items to either the Ferdinand Branch Library, 112 E 16th St, Ferdinand, 367-1671, or the Dubois Branch Library, 5506 Main St., Dubois, 678-2548.
