Herbert “Herb” J. Burke, 72, Celestine, passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2016, at home.

Herb was born on May 6, 1944 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Herman and Lorena (Reckelhoff) Burke. He married Patricia Betz on September 1, 1973 in St. Celestine Catholic Church.

Herb was a graduate of Dubois High School. Herb was a farmer and the owner of Hall Creek Catering. He was a member of St. Celestine Catholic Church, the Celestine Volunteer Fire Department, Schnellville Conservation Club, Schnellville Community Club, Celestine Community Club and the St. Anthony American Legion Post #493. He enjoyed going to auctions and was interested in antique machinery.

He is survived by Patty Burke of Celestine; three sons, Chris Burke, Adam Burke and Phillip Burke, all of Celestine; mother, Lorena Burke of Celestine; one sister, Mary Ann Boeglin and her husband Randy of Huntingburg; one brother, Eugene Burke of Celestine.

Preceding him in death is his father Herman Burke.

Funeral services Herbert “Herb” J. Burke will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at St. Celestine Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. St. Celestine Parish will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The Celestine Volunteer Fire Department will have a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
