Herbert Gehlhausen, age 81 of Port St. Lucie, Florida and formerly of Dubois, Indiana passed away Saturday (December 15, 2012) at 12:05 p.m. at the home of his son Randy Gehlhausen in Ferdinand, Indiana.

He was born at Ferdinand, Indiana June 25, 1931 to Jerome (Harry) and Charlotte (Reutman) Gehlhausen. He married Doris Hentrup on October 11, 1952 in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois, Indiana.

Herb worked at AristOkraft in Jasper for many years as a superintendent and also was a self-employed operating a construction company locally and in Florida for many years.

Survivors include;

Wife, Doris Gehlhausen

Two daughters;

  • Mrs. Bob (Cheryl) Schnell, Jasper, IN
  • Mrs. Jim (Patti) Brosmer whom they raised.

Three sons,

  • Michael Gehlhausen and spouse Monica, Jasper, IN
  • Randall Gehlhausen and spouse Laural, Ferdinand, IN
  • Daniel Gehlhausen and spouse Ruth, Marietta, GA

Seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Two sisters,

  • Mary Schulte, Jasper, IN
  • Rosie Vitiello, Louisville, KY
  • One brother, Eugene Gehlhausen, Jasper, IN

Preceding him in death are three sisters, Harriet Fischer, Charlotte (Butsy) Kleuh and Eugenia (Dolly) Durcholz and two brothers, Jerome and Charlie Gehlhausen.

Funeral services for Herbert Gehlhausen will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday (December 19, 2012) in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Raphael’s Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday (December 18, 2012) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.
