Herbert A. Balbach, 89

Herbert A. Balbach, 89, of Ferdinand died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Brookside Village in Jasper.

Herbert was born October 16, 1924 in Mariah Hill to Anton and Bertha (Jochim) Balbach.

He married Theresa A. Kerstiens on May 22, 1951 in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2007.

Herbert was a WWII veteran where he served as a medic with the C Squadron 1385th. He was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and St. Ferdinand Parish. Herbert was an avid gardener who also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Herbert was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Herbert is survived by three sons, Robert and wife Patty of Evansville, Ken and wife Julia of Evansville, and Larry of Ferdinand; three daughters, Rita Messmer and husband Edward of Jasper, Judy Louthan and husband Mark of of Newburg, and Patty Copeland and husband Bob of Louisville; one brother, Leo Balbach of Mariah Hill; 11 grandchildren Emily and Scott Balbach, Greg, Brad, Logan Messmer, Aaron and Tyler Copeland Jennifer and Megan Balbach, Jessica and Brooke Louthan.

Herbert was preceded in death by his wife Theresa; a son, Dennis; a granddaughter, Kayla Copeland; and one brother William Balbach.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. and Wednesday, July 30th from 7:00-9:30 a.m. at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
