Henrietta B. Allen, age 96 of Ireland, passed away at 11:15 p.m., Sunday (February 24, 2013) at St. Charles Healthcare Campus in Jasper.

She was born in Ireland Indiana on September 6, 1916 to John O. and Cecilia (Bueltel) Heim. She married Roy W. Allen on February 11, 1939 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, IN. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1993.

Henrietta was a elementary school teacher who taught for 28 years. She began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in 1936 at New Antioch Schoolhouse in Madison township. She taught the rest of her career within Dubois County, most of those in Ireland, IN.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ireland, the St. Ann’s Society, and the Daughters of Isabella.

She was a graduate of the Ireland High School Class of 1934. She graduated from Indiana University and also attended Oakland City University. She was a member of the Dubois County Retired Teachers Association and the Ireland Historical Society.

She enjoyed cooking, especially baking cakes and pies, and sewing.

Surviving, one daughter, Loretta “Toby” Jaent and husband Russell of Jasper; two sons, John B. Allen and wife Camilla and Robert L. Allen, Jasper; seven grandchildren, Angela C. Wilson, Bryan Jaent and wife Kimberly, Cynthia Roelle and husband John, Julia Schutz and husband Daniel, all of Jasper, Cathy Egler and husband Kenneth of Ireland, Christopher Allen and wife Kimberly of New Salisbury, IN and Jamison Allen, Whiteland, IN; thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her husband was an infant daughter, an infant great -grandson, and a brother Bernard G. Heim.

Funeral services for Henrietta Allen will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday (March 1, 2013) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, IN, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., on Thursday (February 28, 2013) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Jasper Daughters of Isabella will pray a rosary at 12:45 p.m.
